10 ‘Commandments’ for Interpreting Scripture

Last week our family was back for the 80th annual Okoboji Bible Conference in Iowa. It was our seventh year at the gathering, and it was wonderful to see old friends and participate in the incredible tradition of the conference once again.

Along with speaking at Pastor’s Day and a plenary evening session on Friday night, I also had the opportunity to teach an Adult Bible Community this year. Our topic for five days was “10 ‘Commandments’ for Interpreting Scripture.” The interaction was great, and I want to thank everyone who attended and participated in the course.

I realize the content was very challenging for some who previously held a one-dimensional, simple love of the Bible. The goal of the class was not only to equip you to engage Scripture more accurately, but to evoke a more nuanced and mature love for the Bible as a vehicle that facilitates our communion with God.

Many asked for my slides/notes from the class. They’re attached here for you to download and utilize in your personal Bible study, or to use in your own teaching ministry.

Is there any chance there is an audio file one could download for this class? I’d love to have a listen.

I believe they recorded the sessions on DVD. You can go to okobojiconference.org and contact someone there for more info. They have a “store” page to purchase DVD’s but it’s not up and running yet. I’m sure if you e-mail them though, they can answer your questions.

Hey guys, Skye notes that we can use this in our local teaching settings. I would like to use it exactly as it is, full credit given to Skye but do I need to get permission in writing to do so? I just want to use it in a spiritual formation small group I lead in my church.
